Support our local homeless students
We have changed things up this year! In past summers the Mission Team and Summer Mission Focus Leaders Rosemary Plummer and Dot Attwell have collected donations of hygiene and school kits to be distributed by Church World Service. This year we have decided to focus our efforts locally by collecting items for the Student Support Network (which used to be called the Loch Raven Network). This summer, folks at MPC will gather convenient foods and school supplies to be distributed to students who are homeless at Loch Raven High School, Parkville High School and Pine Grove Middle School. Amazingly – there are approximately 2,700 homeless students in the Baltimore County Public School System.
Students in need at the three schools can shop at their school’s Room of Support, for items such as breakfast foods, pens and pencils, and toiletries like toothbrushes and deodorant. For a young person without a consistent home, these donations can make a difference to help them succeed in school and worry less about where their next meal is coming from.
Please consider donating to the Student Support Network this summer. Checks, made out to MPC, should go in pew envelopes or should be marked clearly for School Support Network (SSN). There is a list of needed items posted on the Mission bulletin board and on handouts (and below here). Please contact Rosemary or Dot if you have any questions. Thank you!The following items are what we prefer and what your monetary donations will buy:
Toothbrushes – individually wrapped
Toothpaste – any size, Crest preferred
Hand sanitizer – any size
Grab and Go Food Items:
