Due to the massive hurricanes there is a shortage of medicine, and many Puerto Rican lives are in jeopardy. The Mission Action Group voted unanimously to give our Christmas gift this year to help save lives. And we will do it in memory of Dr. Brad Sack. If Brad were still alive and in his prime, he would likely be visiting Puerto Rico to help, because that’s the caring kind of person he was and infectious diseases were his specialty. Since the hurricane hit, there have been at least 76 confirmed cases of leptospirosis, a bacterial disease spread through contact with contaminated water that can be deadly if not quickly treated. And the number is growing. Doctors and nurses also report seeing patients for other health problems related to a lack of clean water, including gastrointestinal illnesses and pink eye. Direct Relief, Inc. is the NGO that is sending loads of medicines by cargo plane, that is, insulin, anti-hypertension drugs, water purification supplies, antibiotics, and many more. It has been over two and a half months and there are still remote areas that help can reach only by foot and these medicines are going there too. Your gift will save lives. There are envelopes in the pews.
