2008 Peacemaking Weekend
October 3rd began MPC's second annual peace weekend with a rousing
concert by SANGMELE, an acoustic trio comprised of Walt Michael, New
Orleans bassist and educator Dr. Henry Rieff, and vocalist Lea Gilmore. One of
the photos below depicts the labyrinth, lighted and made available for guests to
walk during free times.
Then on Sunday morning, the Adult Forum featured Taylor Branch, a Pulitzer Prize
winning author, speaking about his experience with the Civil Rights Movement.
MPC's Rev. Ted Durr joined him for a discussion. The morning worship service was
further enhanced by a storyteller, Cindy Woodruff, from the Peace Study Center
in Baltimore.
All events were well attended and very much praised.
